Couples / Marital Therapy

Couples seeking therapy often feel helpless and vulnerable and worry about the therapist taking sides as they allow a third party into the complex dynamics of their relationship. However, a competent therapist can help couples reconnect, develop better communication skills, and reestablish trust and intimacy.

When I meet with a couple initially, I focus on understanding the relationship concerns, establishing the goals of therapy, and assessing whether there is a good therapist-client fit. For couples therapy, I utilize Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT), an approach that has been shown to be effective and efficient in improving connection and bonding. I typically see couples for 50- to 55-minute sessions weekly for a few months or over a longer period.
